4 Tips To Help You Choose Which Size Dog Bed

Which size dog bed should I buy for my fur friend? This is one of the main questions that you will ask yourself when deciding on the purchase of your dog bed. There is not one answer available for everyone because dogs are all different sizes and they have their own favourite resting and sleeping positions. One main point to keep in mind, is a good size bed will have their body fit on to the sleep surface. Also keep in mind your fur friend may use their bed during the day for snoozing and for night time sleep as well. Read through these 4 Tips to help you make a good choice.

TIP 1: Watch your fur friend’s activities for the day and take note of the different positions they choose to put themselves in. During the day are they stretching out on their tummy or side? Are they curled up during the day? What position are they choosing at night time? They can choose various snooze and sleep positions throughout the day and night.

TIP 2: Once you have done your observations of your dog’s activities for the day and night, you will have some information to work with. Are you going to choose a bed that they can use throughout the day and also for night? For example; if you observed that your fur friend sleeps at night all curled up, you could choose a smaller size that will cater for this smaller curled up position. However, if your observations were that during the day they stretch out to snooze, they probably will not use their bed during the day because they do not comfortably fit on the sleep surface. So choose a size that will cater for what your dog needs. You can decide to cater for one position with one bed or alternatively a couple of positions with the one bed. Then there is the spoilt fur friend, who has several beds throughout the home to cater for all their favourite positions in their favourite locations throughout the home.

TIP 3: Take some measurements of your fur friend in their different positions. Measure their length and width lying flat and curled up. Are you going to choose a sleep surface that caters for both positions, or alternatively choose the smaller size which caters more for curled up.  Keep in mind they need some extra room to move around into their chosen positions.

TIP 4: Where are you going to place the dog bed in the home? For example if their favourite position for their bed is in an area in the home that is limited for space, such as a small kitchen area, you will probably cater for a smaller size snooze position because you need extra room for your activities. On the other hand if you have a large living room you might decide to get them a larger sleep surface that will cater for all their sleep positions. If you are going to cater for your dogs curled up position you could look at a smaller size. A stretched out position would require a bigger sleep surface.
